Weber’s original kettle-style charcoal grill is still affordable at $119. Weber was the best in high-heat searing testing, with medium-rare steaks on both the exterior and interior. Weber’s kettle grill also produced delicious chicken with crispy skin. The Weber is also capable of smoking low and slow at a steady temperature. This resulted in seriously delicious ribs.

It’s easy to assemble and use while cooking. The Weber grill has a vent at the lid that controls the airflow. An ash tray underneath the Weber grill makes cleanup easy.

The 22-inch Weber charcoal grill was tested in black. Weber also makes an 18-inch version its original kettle design. While there are better and more expensive grills for cooking, this classic is still a great choice for those looking for affordability and quality. This charcoal grill is by far the best. This design allows you to have a side tray and more cooking space. This new larger grill, measuring 572 square inches, has more cooking space than its predecessor, which measured 390 square inches. This is also much more than the 363-square inch Weber cooking area.

The Napoleon charcoal portable grill is very expensive at $324 (currently $319 from Lowe’s, but out of stock). The portable charcoal grill performed better than any other charcoal barbecue in our chicken cooking tests. The result was delicious and the grill has 365 square inches of cooking space. The lid contains a temperature gauge as well as a hinge that allows you to add charcoal.

Our ribs testing revealed that Napoleon produced excellent results. In just 4 hours and 30 minutes, it prepared a tender and juicy rack. It held the highest temperature for longer than any other grill on our chicken test. The searing test was satisfactory, but it was not exceptional.

This grill feels great. It also has three heights for the cooking grate. This allows you to control how hot your food is while grilling and cooking. This is the kettle grill that you should consider if you are looking for the best.

Charcoal grill testing requires extensive hands-on cooking. Your results will vary depending on the technique you use and what ingredients you use. Your experience with cooking and grilling will vary depending on the season and how you set up your charcoal grill. A charcoal grill that is kettle-style will heat up faster than one that has been left out in the summer sun for a long time.

First, let me mention grill thermometers. The temperatures recorded by our thermocouples and data-software did not match those of these hood thermometers. Grill thermometers can sometimes read too high. We recommend that you keep an oven thermometer, or Bluetooth thermometer, handy when grilling.

Two steaks were seared on each grill to test high heat. We measured the charcoal in a chimney in grams and in a proportion for each grill’s surface area. The charcoal was lit inside the chimney. Once the smoke had dissipated, the coals turned grayish-white. The steaks can be placed on the grill grate after the grill has been heated for 10 minutes. Two steaks were placed on each grilling grate near the middle. They were seared for five minutes, then turned over and seared for another five minutes. This will result in a steak that is seared on the outside and medium to medium-rare inside.

You can increase the cooking time, sear or finish cooking in an oven if you prefer more cooked meat. Weber Classic Kettle was our best charcoal grill for searing steaks. The steak was medium-done and had good grill marks. Our Tacklife review unit was the worst, as it didn’t retain heat well and didn’t sear during cooking. To reach medium rare, the steak had to be cooked on the grill for an additional 5 minutes.
